Enough with Black Friday already

I am just about fed up with all of the hype about Black Friday.

What about Thanksgiving?

Do we just forget Thanksgiving and go shopping? Some workers can only afford to take two holidays off a year. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. How would you like your holiday time cut in half?

Think about it.

I know it's nice to have a job, but someone has to pull those early hour shifts. I know they offer overtime and extra pay.

But enough is enough. Stop pushing shopping on Black Friday.

I went shopping once on Black Friday, back in the 70's, before it was officially called Black Friday. Didn't find anything spectacular, didn't find a parking space. Long lines, frazzeled clerks, grumpy shoppers.

Count me out.

I choose to spend the time with my family.

  1. pretty much. Most stores offer the same sales on Thanksgiving online. That's what I do. Petsmart does have Purina One dog food for 1/4 of the price (7 instead of 28)....I can't justify not going out for that. They don't open till 7am though. I did read lots of stores are sending out memos if they call out on Thanksgiving they get fired :/

    1. I could justify going to the pet store because I would imagine that there wouldn't be crowds of rude people elbowing each other to get dog food. (Just the mental picture of that makes me laugh. Especially if the shopper looks like their pet!! )I've heard from friends the same thing about not showing up on Friday after Thanksgiving. I just opened my email and got 4 "new" messages about Black Friday. Some of the messages are multiple repeats of previous messages. I'm staying home and playing with the grand kids.

    2. I lot of places are doing "black friday now" (walmart notably....probably to head off any more deaths). I got my son's $75 toy yesterday for $37. Black Friday now seems to span most of November.

  2. I agree. I think people are silly. Okay, dog food I can understand. But do people really need another TV or computer, etc?! I think Americans are crazy wasteful and by s**t they don't need. Always complaining how broke they are, living paycheck to paycheck, not being able to make it. Stop the wasteful shopping and you'll have plenty of money. Sorry for the rant, I just think sometimes people forget to use their heads and get caught up in silly hype.

But I guess it's great for us resellers when who buy used for ourselves or for resale!

I wish people would think about what they NEED and not what they WANT. I was researching some boots recently and came across a pair of boots from Germany, nothing too special I thought. They sold for almost $3000 just because Kanye has some like them. Really? Did the buyer need a pair of $3000 boots or just want them because of the "star" association? I am thankful for people that purchase items and then donate them because that's how I earn my living now. So its good and bad.
